Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
