Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with Sheffield United only half a year following leading disrespectful taunts directed at the team's coach, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a agreement joining the Championship strugglers until January. His seven-year time at Elland Road was ended through agreement in August.

Among the player's final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead abusive songs about Chris Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the one-cap England international will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Involving Bamford and the Manager

Both men had a past before Leeds won promotion back to the top flight last season and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

Everything appears has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford aiming to resurrect his career.

The Wilder chant went viral in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.

“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
