President Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Members to the Presidential Residence

President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member killed last week to come to the executive mansion.

He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Devastating Incident

US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in DC.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.

Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.

Presidential Invitation

The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump informed the press. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Response

Mourners gathered over the past few days at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.

Both they had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to support law enforcement in the capital.

Honoring the Soldier

“She was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” the principal, the leader of her former high school, told the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to support those in need.”

Funeral plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.

Legal Measures and Policy Changes

Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy led the government to pause asylum applications and cease granting visas to possessors of travel documents.

Status of the Airman

Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the Associated Press.

He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey stated on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to meet with Wolfe’s family.

Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” the governor informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
