Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid year, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with former trainer Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's first championship since the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface after March of 2023.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour victory, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 early break points in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
